Venice, Italy

Italy, a European country with a long Mediterranean coastline, has left a powerful mark on Western culture and cuisine.  Italy is home to the world's largest number of World Heritage Sites (54) and is the fifth-most visited country. Its capital, Rome, is home to the Vatican as well as a landmark of art and ancient ruins.

One of the major cities is Venice, the city of canals. It is the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea.

The best times to visit Venice are between June and August. Venice has a different charm in all seasons. No matter which month you choose, you’ll always be delighted to visit this small beautiful lagoon.

Many tourists prefer to plan their stay during this time as the weather is quite favorable and the accommodation is not that expensive as opposed to the town’s peak season.

Venice is a city located in Italy, in the south of Western Europe. It is best known for its beauty, architecture, and art. Its historical buildings and canals are what most people know of Venezia but the city is rich in a unique culture and lifestyle shaped by its location in the middle of a lagoon and centuries of a unique political and economic history. Often called the Serenissima, after the successful Republic which governed the city, Venice has always been a favorite of artists. Many habits, words, and things currently part of our daily life were born in this small but immensely important city.

Azienda del Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano (ACTV) is a public company responsible for public transportation in Venice.

The main means of public transportation consists of motorised waterbuses (vaporetti) which ply regular routes along the Grand Canal and between the city's islands. Private motorised water taxis are also active. The only gondole still in common use by Venetians are the traghetti, foot passenger ferries crossing the Grand Canal at certain points where there aren't convenient bridges. Other gondole are rented by tourists on an hourly basis.

The Venice People Mover is an elevated shuttle train public transit system connecting Tronchetto island with its car parking facility with Piazzale Roma where visitors arrive in the city by bus taxi or automobile. The train makes a stop at the Marittima cruise terminal at the Port of Venice.

The mainland of Venice is composed of 5 boroughs: Mestre-Carpenedo, Marghera, Chirignago-Zelarino, and Favaro Veneto. Mestre is the center and the most populous urban area of the mainland.
